A shallow black cup with two outstretched handles, a short stem and a circular foot. The two archive photographs show its profile and its open bowl from above. This is the smaller of the two black kylix designs in the collection.
Historical context
The kylix is a Greek drinking-cup form distinguished by its open bowl and lateral handles. Ancient examples vary in the shape of the bowl, stem and foot. The Met typology illustrates several kylix forms. This handmade piece interprets that vessel family; it is not presented as an exact copy of a named museum object.
