The archaeological background
“Leaf-shaped” describes a blade that broadens through its body and tapers to a point. A comparable bronze arrowhead in the Metropolitan Museum of Art has a leaf-shaped blade, a central midrib and a tang. The museum attributes it to Greek or Achaemenid production and dates it to the 6th–4th century BCE or later (object 26.199.291).
The British Museum records another leaf-shaped bronze arrowhead, with a midrib, socket and single barb, dated 675–400 BCE (object 1975,0605.78). Its catalogue discusses parallels across Anatolia and the Ionian cities. These examples show that related forms circulated across the Greek world and its eastern neighbours, with different methods of attachment.
