Historical and design context
Archaic and Classical Greek inspiration. An Attic relief of about 600 BCE depicts Achilles with a Gorgoneion on his shield; the motif also appears on the shield of the Classical Athena Parthenos, as discussed by the Met. These references document the motif across periods, not an exact date, material or prototype for this contemporary design. A mythological subject in ancient art does not make the historical period “Mythological World”. No exclusive city or clan attribution is established.

The relief shows a Gorgoneion on a Greek shield, rather than an architectural ornament. The depicted bearer is the mythological Achilles; the image does not establish a historical city or clan. The modern colours, raised modelling and materials remain workshop interpretations.
