A tall red-brown profile, black spiral ornament and elongated side flaps give the Scythian Helmet its distinctive outline. Visible stitching follows the edges, while an incised bird-head motif decorates one side. The surviving photograph records this single view of the piece.

Historical context

The British Museum discusses tall pointed headwear in ancient depictions of Scythian and related nomadic groups. Its catalogue entry for cylinder seal 1959,0214.3 compares the represented hoods with those of “pointed hat” Scythians at Persepolis. This supplies context for the headwear theme, without identifying the present red-brown form or its ornament as a replica of that evidence.
