Curved dark horns, layered leaf-like ornament and a gold-toned face opening give the Archaic Noble Helmet its richly worked silhouette. Red edging, floral cheek ornaments and a bird-shaped rear fitting bring together contrasting colours and sculptural details.

Historical context

The enclosed face, eye openings and central nose guard invite comparison with Greek Corinthian helmets. The Metropolitan Museum of Art records a bronze example dated to the late sixth century BCE (1992.180.2). This offers context for the broad facial arrangement; the complete arrangement of horns, scales and ornament is specific to this contemporary piece. The sculpted ram head offers an ancient comparison for ram ornament on helmets. The museum identifies the horns, ears and eyes of the upper ram head as restored. This is a thematic reference, not an identified exact prototype of the Archaic Noble Helmet or its scaled crown.

The design concept and aesthetic direction belong to Georgios Katsos and Archaeopolis. Physical making is by Dimitris Katsikis. This is a contemporary, historically informed object. Materials, dimensions, weight, edition status and any specific archaeological model are confirmed with the workshop for each individual commission.
