A contemporary Archaeopolis arrow with a broad, leaf-shaped bronze head, a raised central ridge, a wooden shaft and black feather fletching. Its wider blade distinguishes it from the slender red-fletched arrow in the series.

The leaf-shaped arrowhead

The Metropolitan Museum of Art records bronze arrowhead 26.199.291 as Greek or Achaemenid, dated to the 6th–4th century BCE or later. Its defining features are a leaf-shaped blade, a midrib and a tang. The ancient head measures 7.3 cm and entered the collection as a gift of the American Society for the Excavation of Sardis in 1926.

The shared leaf-shaped outline and central ridge make this a relevant formal comparison. The museum head has its own proportions and tang; the Archaeopolis arrow’s covered attachment, shaft and fletching are not documented by that ancient object. The museum’s date applies to its arrowhead, not to the contemporary product.

The Kalymnos arrowhead 1856,0826.446 provides a further Aegean example of a leaf-shaped bronze blade with a midrib, but with a socket and side barb. This variety cautions against treating all leaf-shaped points as one uniform ancient type.

The wooden shaft, feather colours and bindings describe the contemporary workshop object. The archaeological sources cited above concern ancient finds; they do not establish a surviving complete arrow with this exact combination of parts.
